The Hit TV show on AMC "The Walking Dead" is sending text/images to its fans. AMC is using Zlango, an image based text-messaging platform for Android smart-phones. The app allows Walking Dead fans to personalize their mobile messages with characters, expressions and co-branded designs.
Users can go into Zlango’s virtual store and buy images in association with words used in texts. The company would not name any other brand campaigns that are currently in the works however with the growing population of smartphone users, Zlango will expand its compatibility to the iPhone.
The app is estimated to be available for purchase in September 2012 sometime. Zlango is also looking forward in the next (6)six months or so to allow advertisers to target brand images to specific keyword(s) text(s). For example, if someone mentions the word “coffee or tea” in a text message, a coffee bean and tea leaf icon may appear.
The future of social networking is looking to be a world dominated by marketing schemes at their best, or somewhat brainwashing. Then again social networking might just be what saves our economy. Only time will tell.
